The use of explosion-proof electrical equipment in explosive hazardous areas is the most basic safety requirement. However, due to the selection, installation, use, and maintenance of explosion-proof electrical equipment involving human, equipment, and environmental factors, it is easy to cause explosion-proof electrical equipment to not be explosion-proof and fail to explode. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct regular and irregular safety inspections and maintenance on the explosion-proof electrical equipment used.

So, from which aspects should we confirm the explosion-proof safety performance of explosion-proof electrical equipment?

1. Personnel

According to the AQ 3009-2007 Electrical Safety and Explosion Protection Code for Hazardous Areas, the inspection and maintenance of explosion-proof electrical equipment should be carried out by professional personnel who meet the specified conditions. These personnel should undergo business training, including various explosion-proof types, installation practices, relevant regulations and rules, as well as general principles of hazardous location classification. They should also receive appropriate continuing education or regular training, and possess relevant professional experience and qualification certificates, in order to improve their level of selection, installation, use, maintenance, repair, and management of explosion-proof electrical equipment.

2. Selection

Explosion proof electrical equipment should be selected based on the level of the explosive hazardous area and the category, level, and group of explosive hazardous substances, and follow the principles of safety, reliability, and economic rationality. Special attention should be paid to the selection of mobile explosion-proof electrical equipment, as well as the displacement of explosion-proof electrical equipment in use, changes in process equipment or materials. Explosion proof electrical equipment should be fully considered and adapted to the environment in which it is used.

3. Procurement

When purchasing explosion-proof electrical equipment, suppliers must be required to provide valid explosion-proof qualification certificates, and special attention should be paid to equipment with explosion-proof qualification certificate numbers suffix with the letters "U" or "X". We should fully consider the special requirements of the usage environment for explosion-proof electrical equipment, such as corrosion, high temperature, etc. The model, specifications, and explosion-proof signs of explosion-proof electrical equipment should meet the design requirements, and the technical documents, attachments, and spare parts should be complete and complete. For batch purchased explosion-proof electrical equipment, a nationally recognized explosion-proof inspection agency can be commissioned for sampling inspection.

4. Installation acceptance

The installation of explosion-proof electrical equipment and electrical circuits should be carried out in accordance with relevant national standards and regulations.

The type, level, group, environmental conditions, and usage conditions of explosion-proof electrical equipment should all comply with the design regulations; The laying method and path selection of electrical circuits should also comply with design regulations.

The wiring engineering of intrinsically safe electrical equipment must not only be constructed according to the design requirements, but also comply with the relevant provisions of the product technical documents.

After installation, acceptance should be carried out in accordance with the construction acceptance specifications, and an explosion-proof electrical equipment file should be established (which should include an explosion-proof electrical equipment ledger, copies of explosion-proof qualification certificates, user manuals, inspection records, maintenance records, etc.).

5. Check

Inspection is a non dismantling or partial dismantling activity carried out to obtain the operational status of equipment and determine its safety and reliability, supplemented by some testing measures. Explosion proof electrical equipment, systems, and installations should undergo initial inspections before being put into operation; Regular routine checks should be conducted during operation. The initial and regular inspections should be entrusted to safety production testing and inspection institutions with explosion-proof professional qualifications, and the interval between regular inspections generally does not exceed 3 years.

6. Continuous supervision

Continuous supervision is the regular maintenance, inspection, management, and monitoring of electrical equipment by experienced technical personnel in professional installation and usage environments, in order to maintain the explosion-proof performance of the equipment in good condition. Continuous supervision is one of the important links in the safety management of the entire life cycle of explosion-proof electrical equipment in use. Professional personnel of enterprises should conduct continuous supervision according to requirements and keep corresponding inspection records. For any abnormal phenomena (faults or changes) found, timely measures should be taken or subsequent repairs should be carried out.

7. Maintenance

Maintenance is a comprehensive activity that maintains or restores a product to a state that meets relevant technical requirements and achieves its required functions.

Maintenance activities should pay attention to maintaining the integrity of the explosion-proof type of equipment, and replacing parts (such as bolts, screws, and similar parts related to the explosion-proof type) should be carried out in accordance with the requirements of relevant safety documents. Any components that have an adverse impact on the safety performance of the equipment should not be replaced without the consent of relevant departments.

8. Maintenance

When the explosion-proof performance of electrical equipment decreases or fails due to external chemical corrosion, mechanical wear, natural aging, and other reasons, maintenance should be carried out. Maintenance should be carried out in accordance with the relevant provisions of GB3836.13-2013 Explosive Atmospheres Part 13: Equipment Repair, Maintenance, Repair and Transformation. After maintenance, inspection should be carried out. If the original explosion-proof performance cannot be restored after maintenance, the explosion-proof level can be reduced or downgraded to non explosion-proof electrical equipment for use.

9. Invalid and scrapped

When the structure and parameters of explosion-proof electrical equipment change and do not conform to the original explosion-proof type and design and cannot be repaired, it is judged to be invalid and immediately stopped for replacement. If the explosion-proof performance cannot be met after repair, it should be judged as invalid. Establish a system for the failure and scrapping of explosion-proof electrical equipment, and prohibit the use of expired explosion-proof electrical equipment in hazardous areas

Establish a full life cycle safety management system for explosion-proof electrical equipment, achieve scientific, standardized, and standardized safety management of explosion-proof electrical equipment in use, and ensure the safe and stable operation of explosion-proof electrical equipment.
